About

A pastebin you don't have to think about.

pste.dev is a tiny, fast, no-account paste tool. You drop in text or code, we give you a short link, and the paste expires when you say it does — never sooner, never later.

Private beta · M2. The core is live — pastes, E2E encryption, accounts, the CLI, syntax highlighting. Magic-link email and CLI distribution are the last M2 items.

Principles, not "values."

No accounts to paste
Sign-up forms are for newsletters. Pste is for pastes — open it, use it, close it. Accounts ship later as an optional convenience layer; the core flow stays anonymous.
Real expiry
When a paste expires, the row, the blob, and the backup are deleted. We do not soft-delete. Maximum lifetime is 30 days for everyone.
Source-available
License is TBD (intent: BSL or AGPL). Public repo, you can read, audit, and self-host. We build off the same git you do.
Client-side E2E
Toggle private and the body is encrypted in your browser with AES-GCM. The key lives in the URL fragment after #, which your browser never sends.
Tiny surface
A small, auditable codebase — Svelte and Bun, no framework sprawl. You can read the whole server in an afternoon.
Free forever
No tiers, no upsell, no card on file. Donation-supported if it sticks around — no tip jar until the project earns one.
P
Built by one person, deployed on one small VPS.
Hi, I'm Pete Scharbau. pste runs on a single VPS — a pastebin doesn't need multi-region. The plan is to keep operating costs measured in single-digit euros per month so the project survives without paid hosting or a revenue tier.
